The Trailhead is within a 1,200-acre
conservation development, and the trail corridor was mapped out as part of the original Northfork
Planned Unit Development agreement. This conservation area is preserved in perpetuity, which
is a great achievement for the City of Ramsey.
Parks & Assistant Public Works Superintendent Riverblood stated there was concern and
opposition from residents of the Northfork neighborhood regarding the trail development. After
the trail was completed, residents of the neighborhood connected to the trail from the south
contacted the City to say how much they enjoyed having it in their neighborhood, and thanked
the City for its conception and development.
Parks & Assistant Public Works Superintendent Riverblood stated the area in which the
Commission was holding their meeting is also within a 7-acre area that is designated to be
developed into a `Monarch Trail'. Lake Itasca, and adjoin areas is an area of great beauty,
surrounded by a forest succession from the wetland, with aspen succession to mature Oaks.
1.
