<br />Councilmember LeTourneau introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION #17-10-247 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION ACCEPTING RESIGNATION OF A COUNCILMEMBER AT LARGE, <br />DECLARING A VACANCY IN THE OFFICE OF COUNCILMEMBER AT LARGE AND <br />CALLING FOR A SPECIAL ELECTION TO FILL THE VACANCY <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, <br />City Councilmember Kristine Williams, who represents the City At Large, <br />has submitted her written resignation from said office effective October 1, 2017; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> pursuant to the City Charter, Section 2.5 a vacancy in the Council exists <br />upon the resignation in writing of a Councilmember filed with the City Clerk; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br />pursuant to City Charter Section 2.5, when a vacancy occurs on the Council <br />with 365 days or more remaining in the term of the vacated office, the Council shall, by resolution, <br />declare the vacancy to exist and such vacancy shall be filled by Special Election according to City <br />Charter requirements.; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> Councilmember Williams’ term of office expires December 31, 2018, which <br />is more than 365 days from the October 1, 2017 vacancy date. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows:\\ <br /> <br /> <br />1.That Councilmember Kristine Williams’ resignation from the City Council as an At Large <br />representative, effective October 1, 2017, is accepted. <br /> <br /> <br />2.That the City Council publicly declares that a vacancy exists in the City Council – At Large <br />elective office. <br /> <br /> <br />3.That as a result of the vacancy in the At Large office, and because more than 365 days <br />remain in the term of the vacated office, pursuant to City Charter requirement, the City <br />Council hereby directs that a special election be held. <br /> <br /> <br />4.That if three or more candidates file for such office, a Primary Election will be held on <br />February 13, 2018. <br /> <br /> <br />5.That State Statutes now dictates uniform election dates for Special Elections and the first <br />authorized date for a Special Election would be Tuesday, April 10, 2018. This date allows <br />all regular election timelines to be followed with no compressed periods. <br /> <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution as duly seconded by Councilmember <br />Shryock, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor: <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
