Absent: None.

COMMISSION BUSINESS

Case #l: Titterud Park Playground Replacement

Parks/Utilities Supet-,,isor Riverblood stated as the Con:u'nission will recall, the City continues to
replace older play equipment at a rate of about one park per year -with new strttctures that meet
Consumer Prodnct Safety Colmnission guidelines, as well as ADA.

For 2004, this w'as scheduled to be Titterud Park, with the Capital hnprovernent Pro,'am
showing a $55,000 allocation tbr replacement of the 20-year old play equipment. Th~ funding is
recommended to corne fi'om depreciated earnings at $48,000, with the balance from the Park
Trust Fund.

During the September Park and Recreation Cornmission meeting, it was a~'eed that
Commissioners would look at the park to familiarize themselves with the site, and that direction
on how to proceed would be determined at October's meeting. One suggestion was that the
playground may have a unique elemel:tt or theme to it - although perhaps not as large in scope as
Alpine Park's Discovery Garden.

The Commission may want to recomrnend something different fbr Titte~n.td Park.

Parks/Utilities Superviso~ Riverblood showed some examples of play equipment to the
Commission.

Commissioner Lehman wondered if there was any concern for sa£:ety with the climbing net.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Ri(erblood stated anywhere on the play equipment, if a child ~lls will
be caught by the net. t% noted the Mghest point would be six feet.

Parks, Utilities Supervisor Riverblood explained they would like to use wood fiber trails to
cormect the rocks.

Commissioner Olds wondered if there was some secmity needed tbr the rocks.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood thought they were heavy and would not need additional-
anchoring.

Commissioner Sln'vock iii<ed the equipment but ~vas concealed with the net for a pla,,/st~n_tcture
ioecause there had been some injuries in other cities and she was concerned with leaves collecting
around the bottom of the netting. She thought this was. a perfect place for d'~e rocks but would
like more of a tree house affect because the way the park is set up.
