Councilmember introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: RESOLUTION #17-10-247 RESOLUTION ACCEPTING RESIGNATION OF A COUNCILMEMBER AT LARGE, DECLARING A VACANCY IN THE OFFICE OF COUNCILMEMBER AT LARGE AND CALLING FOR A SPECIAL ELECTION TO FILL THE VACANCY WHEREAS, City Councilmember Kristine Williams, who represents the City At Large, has submitted her written resignation from said office effective October 1, 2017; and WHEREAS, pursuant to the City Charter, Section 2.5 a vacancy in the Council exists upon the resignation in writing of a Councilmember filed with the City Clerk; and WHEREAS, pursuant to City Charter Section 2.5, when a vacancy occurs on the Council with 365 days or more remaining in the term of the vacated office, the Council shall, by resolution, declare the vacancy to exist and such vacancy shall be filled by Special Election according to City Charter requirements.; and WHEREAS, Councilmember Williams' term of office expires December 31, 2017, which is more than 365 days from the October 1, 2017 vacancy date. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows:\ 1. That Councilmember Kristine Williams' resignation from the City Council as an At Large representative, effective October 1, 2017, is accepted. 2. That the City Council publicly declares that a vacancy exists in the City Council — At Large elective office. 3. That as a result of the vacancy in the At Large office, and because more than 365 days remain in the term of the vacated office, pursuant to City Charter requirement, the City Council hereby directs that a special election be held. 4. That if three or more candidates file for such office, a Primary Election will be held on February 13, 2018. 5. That State Statutes now dictate uniform election dates for Special Elections and the first authorized date for a Special Election would be Tuesday, April 10, 2018. This date allows all regular election timelines to be followed with no compressed periods. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution as duly seconded by Councilmember , and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor: and the following voted against:
