Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chair Cook, Commissioners Droegemueller, Asfahl, Johns,
LaMere, 0strum, and Rolfe. Voting No: None. Absent: None.

NOTE CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

The Parks and Recreation Commission noted the City Council regular meeting minutes dated
August 11, 1998.

NOTE PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES

The Parks and Recreation Commission noted the Planning Commission regular meeting minutes
dated July 7, 1998.

COMMISSION BUSINESS

Case Itl:

Receive Ramsey Youth Athletic Association (RYAA) Participation Data and
Projections

It was noted that at the Commission's July 9th meeting, representatives fi.om RYAA were asked
to provide information on participation. RYAA's president, Rich Quaal was expected to be
present to speak to the expected trends in youth athletics. At this point Mr. Quaal had not yet
joined the meeting.

Mr. Boos stated that Mr. Quaal was not confident of all the numbers presented and that is why
the projections were stamped "draft." He questioned if the projections are based on the current
or projected increase in population.

Commissioner Droegemueller indicated the Ramsey baseball team has been combined with teams
from Anoka and Andover and games are spread throughout the three communities. The reason
for this effort was due to the fact that there were not enough recruits fi.om Ramsey last year. He
stated the combined city teams will travel to other cities to play.

Commissioner Droegemueller also stated the numbers shown were for the City of Ramsey only
but there will be more than just Ramsey teams represented.

Mr. Quaal joined the meeting and Chair Cook asked if the children fi.om the Anoka and Andover
baseball teams were being included in the numbers.

Mr. Quaal stated they were not but he felt the numbers are fairly accurate.

Chair Cook asked how much the total number will change if the other teams are taken into
consideration.

Mr. Quaal indicated he was not sure but this years' total participation is approximately 1020.

Mr. Boos commented that the number of teams playing changes through out the week.

Park and Recreation Commission/September 10, 1998
Page 2 of 8
