Case # 5

REVIEW OF THE PARKS FIVE-YEAR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
By: Mark Boos, Parks/Utilities Supervisor

Background:

Each year, beginning in June, the Commission examines the Five-Year C.I.P. for
modifications and additions. This process includes a public hearing in summer or fall,
with City Council's Finance Committee receiving the Commission's recommendations
thereafter. Attached for your review are the worksheets for the existing Five-Year C.I.P.
Enclosed are two written requests for improvements. In addition, a resident near Shawn
Acres Park is requesting new play equipment and other development.

Observations:

Throughout the year, whenever a significant park improvement is requested, staff notes
the request and also invites that person or organization to make a presentation to the
Commission.

Commission Action:

Direct staff to draft a Capital Improvements Program for Years 2001-2005, based upon
discussions involving the earlier cases and requests received.

Reviewed by:

Parks/Utilities Supervisor

Copies to:

Public Works Director
Finance Officer

P & R: 08/10/00
