CASE # 1 RESt(]N~TION OF GERALD ZIMMERMAN, APPOINTMENT OF NEW PLANNING I, AND ZONING COMMISSION CHAIRPERSONS AND, DISCUSS SCHEDU'L~ TO FILL PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION VACANCY Background: As you pr°babl.~ know, on January 17, 1992 Gerald Zimmerman was appointed to fill the unexpired t~rm ~ Richard Cich on the Ramsey City Council. Mr. Zimmerman has submitted his resignation from ~the Planning and Zoning Commission. This is also the time of year in which we regularly appoint chairpersons to commissions. Mr. Zimmerman served as Chairperson of the Commission and!Mr. Hendriksen currently serves as Vice-Chairperson. Observations: Past policy has bsen to advertise Commission vacancies in the City newsletter. The Commission vacancy will be aklvertised in the February newsletter, which comes out about the 3rd week of the month. In order Ifa allow sufficient time to submit applications and in order to fill the vacancy prior to the May fneeti~ng of the Commission, I would like to suggest that the Commission conduct a special meeting id, March to interview applicants and submit a recommendation to Council for their action on the: 4tl~ Tuesday in March. With such a schedule, we could have a full member commission agair~for the regular meeting in April. Recommendation: City Staff recommends accepting the resignation of Gerald Zimmerman, appointing new chairpersons~ an~ scheduling a special meeting the week of March 16, (preferably Wednesday, March 18) to inte~iew applicants.
