Letter to Judge Schurer
January 7, 2008

The subject of a uniform election date was rescheduled for a meeting on November 15.
Following a lengthy discussion of how best to fill a Council vacancy during a term, the
Commission voted to make no changes. The language continues to read “When a vacancy in an
elected office of the City occurs with 365 days or more remaining in the term of the vacated
office, there shall be a special election held within ninety days”. The Commission briefly
discussed other “housekeeping” issues in Chapter 4 of the Charter and will meet early in 2008 to
discuss possible amendments. The Charter Commission voted to accept the resignation of Lauri
Ebel from the Commission.

The Charter Commission currently has vacancies on its board. The City has advertised and
received some applications. They have recently been sent to the Tenth Judicial District Office
for consideration.

Very truly yours,

CITY OF RAMSEY

Hannah LaMere, Chair
Charter Commission

HL/jmt

c.Charter Commission
City Attorney
