This project is listed in the
2017-2026 CIP under Water Improvements.
Background:
Currently we have one emergency generator connected to well # 5 which produces a maximum of 850 gallons per
minute. Our current consumption rate is 1120 GPM. In a extended power outage we would not be able to keep up
with our daily demand for water. The second emergency generator would be connected to Well # 3 which produces
1650 GPM and would give us the ability to meet our current daily demand under emergency conditions.
At the March 21 st , 2017 PW Committee meeting the committee accepted staff recommendation to enter into a
contract with Bolton & Menk Inc. to provide design and construction management for the purchase and installation
of an emergency backup natural gas generator for Well # 3, with a not to exceed amount of $11,310.00. Bolten &
Menk Inc. has prepared plans and specifications and received quotes from three qualified contractors. The quotes
received were as follows:
Contractor I°Total Quote
IKillmer Electric II$90,500.00
Meier Electric 'IDid not Submit
Levin Electric 'Did not Submit
Because of Killmers original quote of $195,000.000 staff chose to go with a diesel generator, instead of the natural
gas option originally proposed to the PW committee. Staff also explored options of buying the generator outright
though one of our cooperative purchasing memberships. The city will now purchase the diesel generator directly
through our membership with the National Joint Powers Alliance. By switching to a diesel generator and having the
city purchase the generator set, the cost of the generator is now $53,684.61, instead of the originally quoted price of
$101,000.00 through the contractor for a natural gas generator. The total cost of the project is now $144,184.61
Notification:
