CC Regular Session 4. 13.
Meeting Date: 10/24/2017
By: Colleen Lasher, Administrative
Services
Information
Title
Adopt Resolution 17-10-277 to Authorize Hiring a Patrol Officer
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is to request the City Council to hire a Patrol Officer.
This recruitment was necessary to backfill a vacancy that occurred earlier in the year. Staff conducted an internal
and external Patrol Officer recruitment and recommends hiring Mr. Kyle Brotkowski. Mr. Brotkowski participated
in and passed the physical agility testing, two interviews, a report writing exercise, a "shoot/don't shoot video
scenario, an extensive background investigation, a psychological assessment and a pre -employment physical and
drug screen. He, like all new Patrol Officers, will be subject to a 1-year probation period, the City's Personnel
Policy and the union contract.
Observations/Alternatives:
Alternative # 1: Staff recommends filling this vacancy. Patrol Officers are needed to provide public safety and to
support the strategic goals of the community. The strategic goals for the department include maintaining the Police
Department staffing levels in order to maintain service levels. Replacing this open position provides the staffing that
will allow the department to continue to respond to citizens in a timely manner.
Alternative #2: Not filling the Patrol Officer vacancy; staff does not recommend this option.
Funding Source:
The funding required to fill this vacancy has been accounted for in the 2017 budget and represents an overall
savings due to the position being funded while temporarily vacant.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends hiring Mr. Kyle Brotkowski as the Police Department's newest Patrol Officer effective on or near
November 8, 2017, at step 1 of the 2017 pay scale which is $25.06 per hour.
Action:
Motion to adopt resolution #17-10-277, hiring Mr. Kyle Brotkowski as the Police Department's newest Patrol
Officer effective on or near November 8, 2017, at step 1 of the 2017 pay scale which is $25.06 per hour.
Resolution 1710277
Attachments
Form Review
Inbox Reviewed By Date
Kurt Ulrich Kurt Ulrich 10/19/2017 12:25 PM
Form Started By: Colleen Lasher Started On: 10/10/2017 02:39 PM
