City Attorney Goodrich replied that the closing date was supposed to be Februaw 15th, but the <br />issues came forward and the drop-dead date for the City to acquire the property is February 28th. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman inquired if some of the site will be used for public works. <br /> <br />City Administrator Norman replied yes. <br /> <br />Councilmembcr Anderson inquired if the City could sell the land if it is contaminated. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec inquired as to what staff's recommendation was. <br /> <br />City Administrator Norman replied that it was staff's recommendation to proceed with the sale. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Zimmerman, seconded by Mayor Gamec, to direct staff to proceed <br />with the purchase of Alloy Recovery for a purchase price of $175,000. <br /> <br />Further discussion: City Attorney Goodrich noted that the City would be purchasing the land for <br />$175,000, and assuming all liabilities that come with the land. Councilmember Anderson stated <br />that she was concerned with taking on environmental contamination. City Attorney Goodrich <br />noted that there was a spill on the property that MPCA had to be notified of and they do not <br />know the results of that at this point. Councilmember Hendriksen felt that there were to many <br />issues that needed to addressed before proceeding. Councilmember Kurak inquired as to how <br />many acres the City would be acquiring. City Attorney Goodrich replied approximately two <br />acres. Councilmember Kurak inquired if the City needed the land for Public Works. City <br />Administrator Norman replied that part of the land will be used for Public Works, but the other <br />part is part of the City's redevelopment plan and they do have willing buyers for the parcel. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Zimmerman, Hendriksen, and <br />Kurak. Voting No: Councilmember Anderson. <br /> <br />MAYOR AND COUNCIL INPUT <br /> <br />1) Schedule a Work Session <br /> <br />A Council work session was scheduled for March 5t~' at 5:30 p.m. <br /> <br />2) Residents Stop Sign Request <br /> <br />Consensus of the Council was to direct staff to send a letter to the County to investigate the <br />possibilities of stop signs at Alpine Drive and C.R. #5 and Sunwood Drive and C.R. #5. <br /> <br />City Council/February 26, 2002 <br /> Page 34 of 35 <br /> <br /> <br />
