lour 1111.1siion: To work together to reiposihty grow our community, and to provide quality, coat -effective, and efficient government ierrlcas.
CC Regular Session 7. 4.
Meeting Date: 12/12/2017
By: Colleen Lasher, Administrative
Services
Information
Title:
Adopt Resolution #17-12-306 to Approve Increasing the IT Support Technician to Full-time
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is to ask the City Council to approve increasing the current part-time IT Support
Technician to full-time in order to better fulfill the role of the City's IT division.
The IT division's role is to maintain computers, software and systems, which allow staff to perform effectively and
citizens to have access to up-to-date City conference room space and website. The IT division strives to improve
current technologies and to add new technology in order to facilitate efficient and effective government services.
The IT Support Technician position has been a positive addition to the City's staffing. When the position was
created in 2014 it was budgeted for 20 hours per week, two years later in 2016 the budget allowed for an increase to
29 hours per week and now, the workload of the IT division continues to grow and warrants full-time hours. The
employee in this position has grown to be a valuable asset to the City and has gained specific knowledge that has
allowed the IT Manager to spend more time on other projects. The IT Support Technician is interested in full-time
status and, therefore, the designation will also assist in long-term retention of a valuable employee.
As a result of multiple budget discussions and feedback from staff, the City Council included funds in the 2018
budget to increase the IT Support Technician to full-time. The extra time each week will be spent focusing on many
of the day-to-day demands of the position and will offer greater availability to handle spur of the moment high
priority tasks. In addition, the IT division will begin managing and tracking the City's cell phone inventory, repairs,
troubleshooting and billing.
Notification:
Attached: Personnel Request / Position Justification Form
Funding Source:
The funding required to increase the IT Support Technician to full-time has been included in the 2018 budget and is
estimated to be $27,012; however, there is an overall savings in the Administrative Services Department due to
other personnel changes.
Recommendation:
To increase the IT Support Technician to full-time.
Action:
