CASE #

UPDATE ON PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENT
By: Jo Thieling, City Clerk

Background:

On September 30, 2004, the Ramsey Charter Commission held a regular meeting and discussed
certain "housekeeping" or minor amendments to the City Charter. These amendments became
necessary as a result of the increase in Council size and the adoption of the Ward system. The
Corem ission agreed upon proposed language and a red-lined version was sent to the City Council
with thc request to introduce an ordinance making such amendments and scheduling a public
hearing for November 9, 2004. The Council introduced the ordinance as presented and
scheduled the public hearing as requested. The City Council held the public hearing on
November 9, 2004, however, they were unable to take action as all the Councilmembers were not
prescnt. The ordinance was then presented for fonnal adoption on November 23, 2004. The
Council unanimously voted in favor of the amendment. Staff published the ordinance in the
Novembcr 26th edition of the Anoka County Union, as required by law, and the amendment to the
City's Chartcr becomes effective March 3, 2005, providing there is no petition against it.

Commission Action:

No action necessary - for informational purposes only.

Charter: 12/16/04
