CASE <br /> <br /> SELECTION OF INSURANCE AGENT <br /> OF RECORD FoR THE CITY OF P~AM~EY <br />By' Dave Hartley, City Administrator <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />This case was initially brought before the Council at the regular Council <br />meeting of September 27, 1988. Due to Mr. Michael Hadtrath's candidacy <br />for a Council seat, City Attorney Goodrich recommended the Council delay <br />action on this selection until after the election. The current agent <br />of record, T. C. Field and Company, was retained to provide agent services <br />through mid-December at which time the Council would address the selection <br />of insurance agent of record. <br /> <br />Previously the City's insurance agent of record received a commission <br />directly from the carrier based upon the City's insurance premium cost. <br />For the policy year of 10/1/88 through 10/1/89 it is estimated the agent's <br />commission would have been approximately $6,000. <br /> <br />The proposed agreement is structured in such a way that the City receives <br />the standard commission from the carriers and the City directly pays <br />the agent of record a fee. This fee is to be determined by the selected <br />agent's proposal. <br /> <br />Enclosed are the following items for your information: <br /> <br />a) Report and recommendations on agent selection for the City of <br /> Ramsey prepared by Mr. Peter C. Young (Mr. Young was retained <br /> by the City earlier this year to assist in the evaluation of <br /> insurance agents) <br />b) Sample agreement which specifically identifies services/duties <br /> of an agent of record <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Council Action: <br /> <br />Motion to: <br />Approve the selection of as agent of record <br />for the City of Ramsey for a term of three years and enter into <br />an agreement for agent of record services. <br /> <br />Review Checklist: <br /> <br />Administrator <br />Attorney <br />Engineer <br />Community Development Director <br /> <br /> Chief of Police <br />X Finance Officer X <br /> Public Works Superintendent <br /> Other <br /> <br /> <br />
