5 Minutes CASE #15:

PURCHASE OF UTILITY EQUIPMENT
By: Merle Mevissen, Public Works Superintendent

Background:

At the City Council meeting of May 31, 1988 Council approved spending up to
$18,000 for a pick-up truck and safety equipment for the Water and Sewer
Department. I found a used 3/4 ton pick-up truck with a utility body. It
appears to be in really good shape and at a decent price. I also have received
price quotes on other equipment as follows:

1985 Chev 3/4 ton pick-up truck with service body
Portable gas detector
Portable man lift
Parachute style body harness
Ventilating fan with hose
Portable eye wash station
Metal locator

$ 9,495.00
1,245.00
1,929.47
57.55
670.00
200.00
620.00

Total $14,217.02

We also need a respirator or breathing device, but at this time I'm not sure
just what is needed. When that is determined, I'm sure that we will be able to
purchase this also and stay under $18,000.

Recommendation:

Council Action:

Motion to:
Approve the purchase of a pick-up truck and safety equipment for the Water
and Sewer Department.

Review Checklist:

Adminis trat or
At t orney
Engineer
Cc~munitv Eevelopment Director

Chief of Police
Finance Officer
Public Works Superintendent
Other
