Storm water drainage is a concern due to the change in soil density <br />and potential for increased runoff. Percolation ponds are ineffective <br />if not maintained properly particularly with cement materials leaching <br />into the pond area. If the pond is clogged, it could create a perched <br />water table. The design of the pond should include the possibility <br />for an outlet to storm sewer. <br /> <br />The proposal does not address whether material will be stockpiled~or <br /> the fill operation will be a continual operation.~ ~~/~//.~ <br />whether <br /> <br />Site screening and buffer of the operation does not appear to <br />eliminate visual effects of the landfill operation particularly if <br />materials are to be stockpiled. Additional berming, plantings or <br />other screening may be necessary. <br /> <br />With regards to disposal, an assurance is necessary that only <br />materials produced on-site would be landfilled. Monitoring of this <br />may be difficult. <br /> <br />The proposed end use of the site as a storage yard would be <br />questionable due to periodic or differential settling. Maintenance of <br />a suitable cover over the cells is also questionable under traffic. <br /> <br />As a general note, the overall trend has been towards concentrating <br />demolition landfills similar to sanitary landfills so that fill <br />materials can be effectively monitored. The concept presented here <br />opens the door for establishment of many demolition fills to <br />accomodate individual needs. <br /> <br /> <br />
