JOINT LAW ENFORCEMENT UPDATE, BY CHIEF JIM WAY

Police Chief Way announced he and Councilmember Pearson attended the joint law enforcement
meeting. A brief training update was given, which is now done through the new 800-rnegahertz
radio system. A report was received from the cID Operations Committee, which had some
major cases, and there are a couple involving the City of Ramsey. The Fire Arms Committee
presented a report indicating that there will be renovations at the range; other than that
everything at the range is going well. The board and county members assured them the range is
there to stay.

Councilmember Pearson stated it is a pleasure for him to go to these meetings, as the City of
Ramsey Police Department seems to be a leader.

Councihnember Kurak asked Police Chief Way to review the difference' between the new
megahertz system and the system the City was using earlier.

Police Chief Way explained one of the main advantages of the new system is the ability to talk to
more organizations. With the previous system, the Police Department .could not even
communicate from the police squad radios to the fire truck radios. The new system allows them
to talk to other cities and allows much better coverage than before.

Mayor Gamec noted Police Chief Way serves on the task force dealing with meth-amphetamine
labs, which is a serious problem. He has seen some brochures the city of Blaine has done, and
would suggest that be done by the City of Ramsey as well.

Police Chief Way replied staff is looking into that.

COMMUNICATIONS

Mayor Gamec congatulated Councilmembers Elect Jeffreys and Ols0n on their election to the
Council.

Councilmember Elvig congratulated Mayor Gamec for his re-election.

CITIZEN INPUT

There was none.

APPROVE AGENDA

City Administrator Norman noted that Case No. 12 will be moved up in the agenda for action as
Case A.

P24

City Council/November 9, 2004
