PC CASE # <br />CONSIDER RECLASSIFICATION AND PAY SCALE <br /> ADJUSTMENTS OF CITY POSITIONS <br /> By: Heidi A~ Nel!on, Assistant City Administrator <br /> <br />Background: <br />As a part of the 2005 budget process, staff discussed with Council the need to evaluate <br />job descriptions for a number of City positions. Staff included in the 2005 budget, which <br />was approvcd at the regular meeting of the City Council on December 14th, 2004, fimds <br />to cover the costs of potential pay scale adjustments for these positions. These positions <br />include: Police Captain, Zoning Spe~cialist, Department Secretary, Records Management <br />Clerk, and Fire Marshall. The Zoning/Recycling Coordinator and Fire Marshall are new <br />titles for the existing Community: Development Assistant and the Fire Inspector, <br />rcspectively. The position of Community Development Assistant and Fire Inspector are <br />no! funded to be filled as a part of the 2005 budget. <br /> <br />Staff has updated the job descriptions fOr each of the positions identified above and <br />evaluated each for points associated '&ith pay equity. Staff has also completed an analysis <br />roi' comparable pay scales in the stant0n 6 Group Cities Report as well as relational pay <br />within the City of Ramsey organization, <br /> <br />Staff' is recommending pay scale iadjustments for the following positions: <br /> <br />POSITION CURRE, NT RANGE <br />Police Captain $27.24 - $34.95 <br />Zoning/Rccyc. Co°rd. $18.96 - $23:70 (CDA) <br />Department Secretary $15.30 - $ i 9,12 <br />Records Mgmt Clerk $15.90 - $t9.88 <br /> <br />PROPOSED RANGE <br /> <br />$29.83 - $37.29 <br />$20.62 - $25.77 <br />$15.90 - $19.50 <br />$16.97 - $21.21 <br /> <br />Thc Fire Marshall position is still under study and will be presented to Council for <br />conside,'ation at a future meeting. The adjustments for the Police Captain and the <br />Dcparm~ent Secretary positions are reflective of the market for these classifications of <br />municipal positions. The adjustment for the Records Management Clerk is reflective of <br />thc change in duties to include webm.aster and increased technology support. The new <br />position of Zoning/Recycling Coordinator (referred to as the Zoning Administrator in the <br />2005 budget documents) is reflective ; of the increased duties in zoning administration, <br />planning, and the shift of code enforcement duties to Police. The proposed pay scale <br />changes would be retro-active to 01/01/2005.
