(2, eveIopment eport'i) Your Source for Development News in Ramsey Looking to the Future City Staffhas worked with various individuals from across the City over the last 12 months developing a 20 year vision for the community. Four (4) key themes have emerged from these discussions. 1. Balanced Rural Character and Urban Growth 2. An Active Community (Parks and Recreation) 3. A Connected Community (Transportation) 4. A Positive Learning Environment (Planning for Schools) Even though the Comprehensive Plan Update is still being drafted, the feedback we have received from the community has been valuable in the review of several re- cent projects. We are excited to see continued new growth in development and tax base. Ramsey continues to ensure that new development is balanced with the preservation of Ramsey's rural character. Rural character in Ramsey is made up of a combination of larger lots and natural resources, which make up a majority of the area of Ramsey. Additionally, the transition between new development and existing neighborhoods is critical to Ramsey. The City Council sets a high standard when considering changes to our vision proposed by new development. When projects represent a change to our vision and plans, we look to ensure that the proposed project is compatible with the adjacent neighborhoods and adds new value to the com- munity. Measuring Our Success Several projects of interest are currently under con- struction or recently approved. • Adrenaline Sports Center • Bunker Lake Industrial Park • Connexus Energy Solar Farm • Greenway Terrace Apartments • Pearson Place (single-family housing) • Stone Brook Academy (child care center) • Vistas at North Commons (single-family housing) Additionally, several new projects are now under re- view. • Affinity at Ramsey (175 unit 55+ Apartment) • New Ramsey Elementary School • Rum River Prairie (single-family housing) New construction permits in November and Decem- ber added approximately 65 new households and approx- imately 150,000 square feet of commercial and industrial space. Ram- sey continues to proactively recruit new and exciting shops and restaurants to our community to balance the needs for services for new and existing residents. There are approx- imately 150 acres of land within our community that are ready for retail development. While our residential goals continue to see great success, many of our retail goals have not yet materialized. Our hope is that with continued res- idential growth and proactive economic development, we will achieve these retail goals.
