CC Regular Session 4. 9.
Meeting Date: 02/12/2018
By: Colleen Lasher, Administrative
Services
Information
Title
Adopt Resolution 18-036 to Authorize Hiring a Parks Maintenance Worker
Purpose/Background:
The Public Works Parks Maintenance Worker position was approved as part of the 2018 budgeting process. The
position is necessary for many reasons, but especially due to increased demands for park maintenance, as well as to
prepare for and clean-up after City sponsored events. This position also includes snow plowing and being a
member of the emergency on -call rotation. It may be interesting to note, staffing in the Parks Division has not been
to this level since 2011; with this position, the City will have 5 Parks Maintenance Workers.
As a result of budget approval, an internal, followed by an external recruitment process was conducted. Staff
received 36 applications, seven first interviews were held, followed by three second interviews. Staff selected Mr.
Andy Blood as the top candidate. Subsequently, Mr. Blood underwent and passed the City's pre -employment
testing process, including a criminal background check, professional reference check, driving record check and
employment verifications; as well as a physical exam and drug screen. The City extended a job offer which is
contingent upon City Council approval. Staff is recommending the top candidate, Mr. Andy Blood be hired as a
full-time Parks Maintenance Worker. Mr. Blood will be subject to a 6-month probationary period and all Personnel
Policies and/or employment contracts will apply.
Notification:
This position falls under Strategic Imperative III: "Smart, Citizen Focused Government" within the Strategic Plan.
Funding Source:
The 2018 funding required for this position, with a March 1, 2018 start date, is $54,175.
Recommendation:
To hire Mr. Andy Blood as a full-time Public Works Parks Maintenance Worker, effective on or near March 1,
2018 at $21.66 per hour which is step 1 of the 2018 wage scale.
Action:
Motion to adopt resolution #18-036 to hire Mr. Andy Blood as a full-time Public Works Parks Maintenance
Worker, effective on or about March 1, 2018 at $21.66 per hour which is step 1 of the 2018 wage scale.
Resolution 18-036
Attachments
Form Review
Inbox Reviewed By Date
Kurt Ulrich Kurt Ulrich 02/08/2018 03:02 PM
