Mayor Gamec introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION #02-02-053 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE NORTHSTAR COMMUTER RAIL PROJECT <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, a survey of residents living in the Northstar Corridor shows that they want, <br />need and wholeheartedly embrace transportation alternatives such as commuter rail; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Northstar Corridor is an 802mile stretch along Highway #10 from <br />Minneapolis, through the City of Ramsey, to the St. Cloud/Rice area; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, half of the respondents in the survey say their commute is more congested <br />than it was five years ago; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Ramsey is progressively addressing the growing issues of <br />congestion on overburdened highways; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Ramsey is a member of the Northstar Corridor Development <br />Authority, a governmental entity comprised of 30 local and county governments and rail <br />authorities; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Ramsey signed a joint powers agreement with the other <br />members of the Northstar Corridor Development Authority in 1997 to provide a mechanism for <br />studying and addressing commuter rail and other transportation improvements in the TH 10/47 <br />corridor in Hennepin, Anoka, Benton, and Sherburne Counties; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the proposed commuter rail project, when completed, will improve <br />transportation options for seniors, students, people with disabilities, commuters and businesses; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the commuter rail project will relieve pressure on an overburdened state <br />highway system; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the economic vitality of the State of Minnesota will be aided by a <br />successful transit system. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br />1) That the City of Ramsey reaffirms its commitment to the Northstar Corridor <br /> Development Authority and the Northstar Commuter Rail Project. <br /> <br />2) <br /> <br />That the City of Ramsey respectfully requests the Minnesota State Legislature to support <br />the project by authorizing $120 million in state bonds to match federal funding for the <br />Northstar Commuter Rail Project. <br /> <br />Resolution #02-02-053 <br />Page 2 of 2 <br /> <br /> <br />
