Councilmember Anderson introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION 4402-04-091 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING APRIL 27, 2002 AS "ARBOR DAY" AND THE <br />MONTH OF MAY 2002 AS "ARBOR MONTH" <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, tress are an increasingly vital resource in Minnesota today, enriching our <br />lives by purifying air, soil and water, conserving soil and providing local energy, creating jobs <br />through forest products, serving as beautiful recreational settings, providing habitat for wildlife <br />of all kinds, making our cities more livable and are related to all aspects of a diverse, healthy, <br />sustainable ecosystem; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, human activities such as construction damage and pollution, as well as <br />disease and insects, threaten our trees creating the need for concerted action by locally planting, <br />nurturing and protecting trees for benefit of citizenry, economy and ecology; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Ramsey for the 27th year again sponsors a tree and plant sale by <br />its green businesses for its residents and in partnership with Ramsey Elementary School for a <br />tenth year to sponsor an Environmental Fair and is recognized again as a Tree City, USA; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Oaks are the most enduring and valued trees in our landscape, we are urged <br />to plant and preserve their prominence for our descendants of the new millennium; and to plant <br />disease resistant Elms to restore their place in our suburban wooded landscape. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br />1) That the Ramsey City Council hereby proclaims April 27, 2002 as "Arbor Day". <br /> <br />2) That the Ramsey City Council hereby proclaims the month of May as "Arbor Month". <br /> <br />3) <br /> <br />That the Ramsey City Council urges all citizens to plant trees as part of Ramsey's living <br />history, to participate in tree planting programs that will ensure a green Ramsey in <br />decades to come, and to plant, nurture, protect, and steward the use of our native plant <br />resources. <br /> <br />4) <br /> <br />That the Ramsey City Council urges participation in Ramsey's Tree Sale and <br />Environmental Fair, Recycling Day, and the Pet Vaccination Clinic on Saturday, April <br />27, 2002. <br /> <br />5) <br /> <br />That the Ramsey City Council encourages efforts to retain or regain our historically <br />diverse and significant trees that give character to our public sites. <br /> <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember <br />Kurak and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br /> <br /> <br />
