The desire to make modi~ficationS to this intersection relates to the concern for imprOving <br />its safety. Summaries of the armUal accident histories for the years 1998, 1999, 2000 and, <br />2001 were provided by MnDOT and are attached to this case. <br /> <br />Observations: <br /> <br />Since to open h.ouse, MnDOT has con, sidered the public comments and has prOposed an <br />alternative to the full median clOsure. ~A sketch of this alternative is attached and has been <br />labeled asa 3/4t~"S median. This ~altemative woUld ailow left'tums from TH,47onto i 42'd <br />Avenue, but would disallow left tums frOm 142"a Avenue onto TH 47. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Increasing the safety of this intersection is related to reducing-the potential for conflict <br />points between vehicles. Unfortunately-the reduction of conflict points comes at the <br />expense of eliminating of some Permitted mo~vement which reduces the accessibility of <br />this intersection.
