7550 Sunwood Drive NW • Ramsey, MN 55303
City Hall: 763.427.1410 • Fax: 763.427.5543
www.cityoframsey.com
August 6, 2018
Doug Fischer, P.E.
Anoka County Division Manager / County Engineer
2100 Third Avenue
Anoka, MN 55303-2270
RE: Support for CSAH 83 & Alpine Drive Roundabout HSIP Application
Dear Mr. Fischer,
The City of Ramsey acknowledges that Anoka County plans to apply for Highway Safety
Improvement Program (HSIP) funding to improve safety at the skewed intersection of CSAH 83/
Armstrong Blvd and Alpine Drive NW by constructing a roundabout. This intersection is of noted
concern given the skewed angle of the intersecting roads, which reduces visibility, the higher than
average number of reported crashes at this intersection, and the regional importance of CSAH 83/
Armstrong Blvd for both City and County residents.
The City of Ramsey supports the County's efforts to address geometric issues and safety concerns
at this intersection. Improvements at this intersection will improve safety and will support all
modes of transportation, and will serve regional and local businesses and residents. The City also
supports the County's efforts to pursue funding through various federal and state transportation
programs, including the Highway Safety Improvement Program, understanding that the City will
be required to split local costs with Anoka County per the County's cost share policy.
The City of Ramsey appreciates the County's efforts to address the noted safety concerns at the
intersection of CSAH 83/Armstrong Blvd and Alpine Drive NW, and will commit to operating and
maintaining the Alpine Drive legs of the roundabout should it be selected to receive funding for
construction through HSIP.
Sincerely,
Kurt Ulrich
Ramsey City Administrator
It is our mission to work together to responsibly grow our community,
and to provide quality, cost-effective, and efficient government services.
