Amtrak <br />Amtrak, the national rail <br />operator, currently provides <br />passenger rail service through <br />Anoka County on its Empire <br />Builder route from Chicago, <br />Illinois to Portland, Oregon <br />and Seattle, Washington. The <br />Empire Builder operates one <br />daily train in each direction in <br />Minnesota, and makes station <br />stops in Winona, Red Wing, St. <br />Paul/Minneapolis, St. Cloud, <br />Staples, and Detroit Lakes (see <br />Table 14 for Amtrak station <br />ridership totals in fiscal year <br />2017). The Empire Builder also <br />makes station stops in the Source: MnDOT <br />border cities of La Crosse, <br />Wisconsin, Fargo, North Dakota, and Grand Forks, North Dakota.
