By 2040, it is estimated this will
increase to 1 in 3.
Challenge: Create a transportation system that
provides safe, accessible and affordable transportation
options to enable our growing senior population to age
in place and remain healthy, active and socially
connected.
Continued Growth
We are the largest county in the state and projected to
lead the region in population, household and job
growth through 2040.
Challenge: Accommodating projected growth will place
pressure on the county to maintain our existing
transportation systems and to provide additional travel
choices.
Aging Infrastructure
More than 30% of our roads are more than 50 years
old and are nearing the end of their useful life. Ongoing
maintenance, rehab and replacement is estimated to
cost $2 billion.
Pavement aqe (years)
Challenge: As we rehab and replace infrastructure, we
need to explore new ways to incorporate new
technologies, innovations, and adaptations.
7
