Plans, Programs and Initiatives <br />Hennepin County Pedestrian Plan, 2016 <br />The Hennepin County Pedestrian Plan, includes <br />strategies that support walking and pedestrian <br />movements through infrastructure, facilities, <br />enforcement, education and evaluation. <br />Figure 4-01, illustrates the priority locations for future <br />pedestrian infrastructure throughout Hennepin County. <br />American with Disabilities Act (ADA) <br />Transition Plan, 2015 <br />We seek to make our roadways and pedestrian <br />infrastructure more accessible to individuals with <br />disabilities. In 2015, we developed a county -wide ADA <br />Transition Plan, detailing how we will ensure that all <br />facilities are accessible to all individuals. <br />ADA Accessible Ramps <br />Our goal is to provide ADA-accessible pedestrian <br />design features as part of all projects included in the <br />capital improvement program (CIP) making it easier for <br />everyone of all ages and abilities to safely and efficiently <br />use the pedestrian system as a means of transportation <br />Traffic Signals <br />County traffic signals are being upgraded with <br />accessible pedestrian signals that audibly and visibly <br />communicate to pedestrians with "WALK" and DON'T <br />WALK" phases. The signal upgrades are scheduled <br />based on priority and available funding in areas where <br />improvements are needed. <br />START CROSSING ti <br />4lalch Far <br />Vehicles <br />DON'T START <br />Finish Gnsmq <br />Star led <br />INE RENAMING <br />a Frish Lrnslnq <br />Complete Streets Policy <br />Hennepin County has adopted a Complete Streets <br />policy that complements pedestrian movements and <br />solidifies the County's commitment to develop and <br />maintain a safe, efficient, balanced and environmentally <br />sound county transportation system that supports the <br />County's Active Living initiatives. <br />Sidewalk Participation Program <br />The Sidewalk Participation Program was established in <br />2012 to expand and enhance the network of sidewalk <br />along Hennepin County roads. Since the program <br />began, 23 sidewalk projects at a total cost of $1.1 million <br />have been implemented. <br />Southwest and Bottineau Community Works <br />Last mile connections, including sidewalks, were <br />identified for implementation prior to open day of these <br />transitway projects. <br />Pedestrian Education <br />Hennepin County administers Heath@Work, Step To It, <br />Safe Routes to School, and Active Living Hennepin <br />County to support pedestrian activity and educate users <br />of our system. <br />21 <br />
