Meeting Date: 08/06/2018 By: Colleen Lasher, Administrative Services Information Title Adopt Resolution #18-165 to Hire a Permit Technician Filling the Vacant Position Purpose/Background: The Purpose of this case is to request authorization to hire a full-time Permit Technician to work in the Community Development Department. This position primarily reviews and processes permit applications for new and existing residential and commercial construction, issues permits for all phases of construction projects and researches and updates permit records and files. This full-time vacancy was created when Ms. Katy Hauan, the former Building Inspections Technician, resigned. The Building Inspections Technician position served the role of Permit Technician; however, with other changes in the Community Development Department, staff recommends reducing the positions duties down to a Permit Technician level. In order to fill the current vacancy, an internal, followed by an external recruitment process was conducted. Staff conducted the necessary pre -employment background checks and recommends Ms. Alajandra Sanchez for the position. Funding Source: The funding required for this position is included in the approved 2018 budget. Recommendation: Staff recommneds hiring Ms. Alejandra Sanchez as a Permit Technician, effective on or near September 4, 2018 at $24.38 per hour, which is step 3 of the 2018 wage scale.
