Canvassing Board Meeting Date: 08/17/2018 By: Jo Thieling, Administrative Services Information Title: Declare the Results of the August 14, 2018 Primary Election 4. 1. Purpose/Background: Purpose: The purpose of this case is to accept and declare the results of the August 14, 2018 Primary Election. Background: As per State Statutes, the City Council must serve as a Canvassing Board to accept and declare the results of a local election. The Primary Election was held on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, and the City's eight polling places were open for voting from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The residents also had the opportunity to vote absentee if they chose, either at Ramsey City Hall, at Anoka County Elections Department, or by mail. The voter turnout for the Primary Election, including absentee votes, was about 20 percent. Attached to this case is the Abstract of Votes Cast. Also attached for your infomration is the 2018 Results Spreadsheet for Anoka County. The local portion of the Primary Election ballot was to determine which of the mayoral candidates and which of the Councilmember Ward 4 candidates would proceed to the General Ballot. The vote totals for the three candidates for Mayor are as follows: John LeTourneau - 1562, Richard Wulf - 808 and Andy Hillebregt 610. The vote totals for the three candidates for Councilmember Ward 4 are as follows: Debra Musgrove - 364, Ralph Brauer - 166 and Skip Carlson - 154. Therefore, the candidates on the General Ballot will be John LeTourneau and Richard Wulf for Mayor and Debra Musgrive and Ralph Brauer for Councilmember Ward 4. Recommendation: Staff recommends accepting and declaring the results of the 2018 Primary Election and to sign the Abstract of Votes Cast. Action: Motion to accept and declare the results of the 2018 Primary Election.
