Councilmember Strommen stated that staff providing options on the street maintenance program <br />would be very beneficial. <br />Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler reviewed the Fire Department budget, which would <br />incorporate a full time fire inspector rather than a part-time fire inspector and the addition of <br />three firefighters that were cut from the 2003 budget. <br />Councilmember Zimmerman inquired in tough budget times would a maintenance worker or a <br />fire inspector be more needed. <br />Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler replied that he could not really compare the two <br />positions. There will be a need to be a full-time fire inspector with the creation of the Town <br />Center. <br />Community Development Director Frolik noted that they have multi -tenant facilities that require <br />fire inspections as well as rental housing. <br />Mayor Gamec inquired if Mr. Kapler felt that they would have enough fire fighters with the <br />inclusion of the Burns Township contract. <br />Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler replied that he believed that they did. <br />2) Planning Commission Vacancy <br />Councilmember Kurak noted that there is a vacancy on the Planning Commission and suggested <br />that they go back to the previous pool and select a candidate. <br />Mayor Gamec replied that they had a problem with doing that in the past. <br />City Administrator Norman stated that he would recommend appointing alternates in the future. <br />Councilmember Kurak stated that if they go through the entire process again the seat will be <br />vacant for some time, which is a concern with the Town Center coming on board. <br />3) Ramsey Town Center Development Agreement <br />City Administrator Norman inquired if the Council was comfortable with staff bringing in <br />consultants to assist with the development agreement process for the Town Center if those costs <br />are covered by the developer. <br />Consensus of the Council was that they were comfortable with the City Administrator bringing in <br />additional consultants to assist with the development agreement process as long as it is billed <br />back to the developer. <br />City Council Work Session/August 5, 2003 <br />Page 10 of 11 <br />
