Case # 3

BUSINESS CONNECTION MEETING
By: Megan Wald, Associate Planner

Background:

On January 1 l, 2005, the City received a letter from' Peter Bell of the Metropolitan Council
confirming his attendance and stating his enthusiasm to speak at the City of Ramsey's March 8,
2005 Business Connection meeting (thank you Dave Elvig for making this happen).

Staff put together an invitation flyer that was sent out to approximately 1,500 area businesses the
week of January 24th. The response has been extremely positive and prompt. At the time of
writing this case, a total of 62 people have RSVP.

Staff met with George Wells of Wells Catering to inquire about providing a catered breakfast for
the event. The meeting resulted in a menu consisting of egg bake, potatoes (of some sort - TBD),
fresh fruit, muffins, orange juice, and coffee at a price of 7.99 per plate. Wells Catering has a
good name with many positive references; therefore staff is confident they will compliment the
professional atmosphere present at the Business Connection meeting.

Observations:

Staff would like to solicit input and direction from the EDA on the following items:

Power Point Presentation: At the last EDA meeting, the authority discussed the idea of
staff making a short power point presentation about recent development in Ramsey. In
order to allow for adequate "socializing and networking" and enjoyment of the catered
breakfast, staff would suggest that the power point presentation occur at the Fall Business
Connection meeting. If the EDA would like development information to be available to
attendees, staff would suggest compiling a one page development fact sheet to be
included in the hand-out-packet that will be given to each person'in attendance.

Action: Decide if a one page informational sheet about development in
Ramsey would be beneficial robe included in the hand-out-packet.

Hand-out-Packet: Attached to this case is a draft copy of the Agenda. Staff would suggest
assembling a packet for each attendee that would include the following information:
a. Agenda
b. List of everyone who RSVP (yes - I will finally put this
together after much request © )
c. Development Information.'?
d. Other:

Action: Decided if there are any other items or information that should be
included in the Hand-out-Packet.

Invitation Follow-up: As previously :stated, the original invitation flyer sent to' over 1,500
area businesses. It would seem appropriate to include information about the Business
Connection meeting in the Januau/February Business Connection Newsletter. Staff
anticipates mailing the newsletter to the Ramsey business community the week of
February 14th. The EDA should discuss if this is adequate notice and may want to discuss
