Community Development Director Gladhill stated that the development plans are still scanned <br /> and stored through Laserfiche and is part of the server space issue as plans are becoming larger. <br /> He noted that there are still older plans that would benefit from being scanned in, but there is not <br /> available space on the server for those additional files. <br /> Councilmember Kuzma commented that it would be helpful to have additional space to have <br /> those older files scanned, which would make information more readily available. <br /> Fire Chief Kohner provided additional details on how it would be helpful to have more <br /> information on building plans readily available in the case of fires to determine where certain <br /> elements are in buildings or whether there is a clean room in a commercial/industrial building. <br /> Acting Mayor LeTourneau confirmed the consensus of the Council to move forward with the <br /> server and backup as it is a necessary item. <br /> Fire Chief Kohner provided additional details on a training tool that will allow fire training <br /> where live fire is not practical. He stated that the limitations on live burns are becoming stricter <br /> and there are simply not houses available. He stated that this tool would simulate live fires and <br /> could be used in any location. <br /> Councilmember Riley asked if any of the members on the joint task force would have that <br /> system available to share use. <br /> Fire Chief Kohner replied that no other departments in Anoka County on the task force have that <br /> tool available. He noted that he could bring up the topic at an upcoming joint meeting to <br /> determine if there would be interest in shared use and cost-sharing. <br /> Acting Mayor LeTourneau stated that this would be a unique tool that would provide necessary <br /> experience for training, therefore providing substantial return on the investment. <br /> Fire Chief Kohner agreed noting that currently the department is paying $1,000 to $2,000 per <br /> training session for participation in a live fire training scenario and that would become a cost <br /> savings if the training tool is purchased. <br /> Councilmember Johns asked if Nowthen would be contributing towards the cost. <br /> Fire Chief Kohner replied that Nowthen would not be contributing towards the cost. He stated <br /> that the cost of $15,000 is fairly inexpensive compared to some of the other training and <br /> equipment costs. <br /> Acting Mayor LeTourneau confirmed the consensus of the Council to leave this item in the <br /> budget with direction to look for additional cost-share possibilities or rental of the equipment to <br /> other departments in an attempt to recoup costs. <br /> Councilmember Riley asked for input on why different departments use different models of <br /> vehicles. <br /> City Council Work Session/October 23,2018 <br /> Page 2 of 6 <br />
