stated that perhaps there would be an opportunity to include information in the new resident <br />mailing and packet that is made available to new residents. <br />Board Member Fetterley asked if the Board could target the irrigation companies that work in this <br />area to assist in education of homeowners. She stated that her family has an irrigation company <br />they work with that actually suggested the smart sensor. <br />City Planner Anderson stated that existing irrigation systems are not subject to the smart sensor <br />requirement and explained that the intention was that any new systems installed would need to <br />have the sensor. <br />City Council Liaison stated that the City's Communication Specialist could also possibly assist in <br />the educational component. <br />City Planner Anderson confirmed that he would likely be working with the Communication <br />Specialist on the educational components. <br />City Council Liaison LeTourneau asked the timeline of when this would move forward to the <br />Council. <br />City Planner Anderson reviewed the potential schedule for this item noting that perhaps this would <br />move to the Council in November or December. He stated that if there is any change, his intent <br />would be to implement the change prior to the construction season in 2019. <br />City Council Liaison LeTourneau stated that he will appreciate the input of the Board Members at <br />the future discussions in order to better represent their opinion when this does move forward to the <br />City Council. <br />City Planner Anderson confirmed that to be his intention. He noted that the intent tonight was <br />simply to introduce the discussion to the Board and obtain input on what the Board would find <br />helpful for the next discussion. <br />Board Member Moore stated that it would be helpful to have the information from the City <br />Engineer on the University of Minnesota session he attended regarding topsoil and watering. <br />6. BOARD / STAFF INPUT <br />• Summer Recycling Event — 265 Vehicles <br />City Planner Anderson stated that the summer recycling event was held at the end of July. He <br />reported that there were 265 vehicles at the event, along with two walkers. He stated that people <br />are taking advantage of the event and estimated about 50 more vehicles at this summer's event <br />compared to the 2017 summer event. He believed that the participation would continue to grow <br />along with the other recycling events. He highlighted some of the significant items that were <br />received through the event. <br />Board Member Moore stated that she saw far more advertising for the spring event than the fall or <br />summer events and commended staff for the marketing efforts. <br />Environmental Policy Board / August 20, 2018 <br />Page 5 of 6 <br />
