Motion b y Commissioner S hryock, seconded b y Commissioner Olds to recommend operating
fees should be applied as available for this project, with the remaining funds taken from trail
fees, not to exceed 50 percent.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Johns, Commissioners Shryock, Olds, LaMere, and
Ostrum. Voting No: None. Absent: Commissioners Lehman and Rolfe.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos advised that last year the city completed installing a stainless
steel grate for a stream in the park. He indicated this has made it more of a destination, and kids
play there a lot, making it less conducive to bikers and other traffic. He added that with the
installation, they are no longer able to drive their maintenance trucks over the stainless steel
grate. He stated his recommendation is to construct a trail around the back, creating access for
the maintenance trucks and providing a route away from the play area. He indicated he is asking
the Parks and Recreation Commission for authorization to use trail fees to construct a 315-foot
segment of trail.

Chairperson Johns asked if the bali field would interfere with the new trail.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos indicated it will not, adding that Emerald Pond Park does not
work well for organized sports, so this is only a practice field.

Motion by Commissioner Ostrum, seconded by Commissioner Shryock to recommend trail fees
be used to build a trail approximately 315 feet in length at a cost of $2302.35.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Johns, Commissioners Ostmm, Stn'yock, LaMere, and
Olds. Voting No: None. Absent: Commissioners Lehman and Rolfe.

COMMISSION/STAFF INPUT

There was none.

ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Commissioner Olds, seconded by Commissioner Shryock, to adjourn the meeting.

Motion carded.

The Park and Recreation Commission meeting adjourned at 6:39 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Karen Whaley
Recording Secretary
TimeSaver Off Site Secretarial, Inc.

Mark Boos
Parks/Utilities Supervisor

Park and Recreation Commission/June 25, 2003
Page 4 of 4
