In October of 2018, the Ramsey Utility Department upgraded
their water metering reading equipment to add more efficiency to the operation. We currently read
approximately 4800 water accounts every quarter. Our water meters produce a radio frequency
signal that is transmitted to software installed on a laptop in the operator's truck. As the utility
operator drives pre-determined routes in their truck, the data is collected from the individual water
meters. Once all the data is collected, it's downloaded to a flash drive and then emailed to our
third party billing agency for processing. With our old meter reading equipment, it only had the
capability to process one reading at a time, which would take staff approximately 3 days to read
our entire system. The new reading equipment, can process 50 readings at a time, reducing the
overall time for reading meters from three days to one. The initial cost to upgrade equipment was
$1,500.00, which included training for our utility department staff. This upgrade has resulted in
an annually savings of$1,700.00 in labor costs.
Thank You-Ramsey Police Reserves. In 2018 Ramsey Police Reserves volunteered 2,100 hours
of service to the community. Ramsey is very fortunate to have over fifteen well-trained citizen
volunteers serving their community as Police Reserve Officers. You may see Reserve Officers
assisting our Police Officers in calls for service, working at special events in and around the City,
and training to serve Ramsey. The hours volunteered is similar to the hours of one full-time
Community Service Officer and estimated cost savings to the City of$50,000 per year.
Annual Boards, Commissions and Employee Appreciation Holiday Party. The City of Ramsey is working with
ACE Solid Waste to provide an opportunity to recycle your extra cardboard that always
seems to pile up this time of year. There will be a dumpster at the Public Works Campus,
14100 Jaspar St NW, through January 18, 2019, for residents to recycle cardboard.
Cardboard should still be broken down and flattened to save space in the dumpster, but
there is no need to bundle them with twine. There is no cost to take advantage of this
