CASE <br /> <br />UPDATE ON pERFORMANCE STANDARDS FOR TRAILS <br /> By: Leonard LintOn, Civil Engineer II <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />The construction of sidewalks and trails :at :the time of development has been a priority <br />for several years. The requirements have been expanded in recent years to include <br />requiring extension of trails along existing fight-of-ways to connect to existing trails or <br />intersections. The proposed trail plan.s Varied in level of detail and considerable effort <br />was often required to get dextelopers to provide adequate plans. Staff recognized this and <br />forwarded performance standards to the public Works Committee in January 2005. The <br />Public Works Committee forwarded their recommendations to the _full Council in <br />February 2005. <br /> <br />Observation: <br /> <br />The following requirements were adopted as the minimum requirements for trails: <br /> <br />Description <br />Pavement Width <br />Design SPeed <br />Offset inside right-of-way <br />Minimum horizontal curve <br />Super elevation on horizontal curves <br />Interval between 2% straight .cross slope area <br />Shoulder Width adjacent to bituminous path <br />Side slope, outside Recovery Zone( h:v <br />maximum) <br /> <br />Standard <br />10ft <br />20 mph <br />2ft <br />80 fi <br />2% < curve < 5% <br />50- 100 ft <br />2ft <br />4:1 <br /> <br />Trails will be required on bOth sides ofall State, County and MSA roads. Trails that are <br />adjacent to the development, shall be placed in a 14 foot wide trail easement inside the <br />property line. Trail easements are not shown on the plat, they are recorded after the plat <br />is filed. Trails outside the development shall be placed with the edge of pavement two <br />feet inside the right-of-way line. ~ <br /> <br />Sidewalks will be required On both .sides of main arterial roads in medium and high <br />density developments. <br /> <br />Trails shall be constructed within two feet of the property line where feasible and within <br />two feet of the right-of-way line where it-is not feasible to be inside the property line. <br /> <br />33 <br /> <br /> <br />
