Stat. § 462.372. <br />Once established, the board is authorized to: <br />• Serve as the governing body and board of appeals and adjustments <br />within the two-mile area. <br />• Create a planning agency. <br />• Create a BZA. <br />• Adopt a comprehensive plan. <br />• Adopt interim ordinances. Note that the law on interim ordinances for <br />certain uses is specific and varied. Best practice suggests consultation <br />with the city attorney before adopting interim ordinances. <br />• Adopt zoning ordinances. <br />• Adopt subdivision regulations. <br />• Adopt an official map. <br />• Provide for and issue conditional use permits. <br />• Enforce official controls and prescribe penalties for violations. <br />• Adopt and enforce the State Fire Code. <br />The city must provide staff for the preparation and administration of land <br />use controls unless otherwise agreed by the governmental units composing <br />the board. <br />C. Regional planning boards <br />Any two or more counties, cities or towns may enter into a joint powers <br />agreement to conduct regional planning activities.
