Chairperson McDilda asked if there had been any discussion about landowners being notified
about the potential for the program and whether or not they would be willing to participate.
Environmental Specialist' Bacon stated that could be a community development activity.

Chairperson McDilda asked at what point the EPB should become proactive instead of reactive
to build awareness.

Board Member Bentz asked whether FIREWISE has funds that have never been used up. He
suggested using the funds to avoid the privacy issues that could come from sending out a mailing
to build awareness. He asked if bulk mailing cards could be sent out to Ramsey residents. He
asked if the grant might cover the mailing.

Chairperson McDilda suggested this might be something for the EPB to keep in mind for
community education.

Environmental Specialist Bacon stated there is a FIREWISE display available but the DNR
doesn't have anyone to sit at a table for the Expo. He stated he would contact them to allow their
information at the EPB booth.

Chairperson McDilda recommended that the work plan be presented to the City Council and
would take the lead from Coordinator Anderson as to when representation from the EPB would
be necessary.

Coordinator Anderson asked for clarification on direction from the EPB as to whether the work
plan should be added as a consent agenda item. He stated that he would send an e-mail to EPB
members regarding a date for the City Council meeting. He stated that it would be either April
11th or April 25th. Chairperson McDilda stated that he would be available to attend.

Board Member Freeburg suggested one more question for the Expo to be, "Can citizens address
the EPB with questions?"

OLD BUSINESS

A. Sample of Calendar Produced by City of Mankato

Coordinator Anderson showed the EPB members a copy of the City of Mankato calendar that
Board Member Max provided him. Coordinator Anderson noted that funding for a calendar
could be an obstacle. He stated that his predecessor had done a City calendar but the cost was
high.

Board Member Bentz suggested that it be tied to another cause. Coordinator Anderson stated he
might be able to justify some of the funding from recycling costs. Board Member Bentz
suggested that potentially garbage haulers might want to pay for their logo in the calendar.
Coordinator Anderson noted his concern that when sponsors are drawn in, it can become
cluttered with various messages.

Environmental Policy Board/April 3, 2006
