CC Regular Session 2. 1. <br />Meeting Date: 05/28/2019 <br />Information <br />Title: <br />Proclamation Declaring May as Building Safety Month <br />Purpose/Background: <br />Building Safety Month (BSM), founded by the International Code Council. (ICC), is celebrated by jurisdictions <br />worldwide during the month of May. Mayor LeTourneau will read the proclamation aloud during this presentation <br />portion of the meeting. <br />Building Safety Month is a public awareness campaign to help individuals, families and businesses understand what <br />it takes to create safe and sustainable structures. The campaign reinforces the need for adoption of modern, model <br />building codes, a strong and efficient system of code enforcement and a well -trained, professional workforce to <br />maintain the system. <br />The campaign is presented by the ICC and its 63,000 members worldwide along with a diverse partnership of <br />professionals from the building construction, design and safety community. Corporations, government agencies, <br />professional associations, nonprofits and more come together to support Building Safety Month because they <br />understand the need for safe and sustainable structures where we live, work and play. <br />Locally, this is an opportunity to celebrate the successes of Ramsey's building safety team. Over the past several <br />years, the team has set out a goal, and excelled to a high degree, improvements to support to our community. The <br />team has a passion for good customer service to ensure safety and healthy buildings and communities. The work of <br />the team may not always be popular, but the good nature of the process helps ensure a vibrant future for our <br />community. Some of the key achievements over the past year include, but are not limited to the following. <br />1. Electronic Permits/ePermits <br />2. Electronic/Automated Inspection Scheduling <br />3. Electronic Plan Review (coming this July) <br />4. Improved Insurance Ratings (savings to our residents) <br />5. Improved resources and webpage (customer -focused, not staff -focused) These improvements were developed <br />in working directly with our customers. In 2016, the team put together a Customer Satisfaction Survey that <br />produced a number of great ideas and process improvements.
