CC Regular Session 4. 8. <br />Meeting Date: 06/11/2019 <br />By: Colleen Lasher, Administrative <br />Services <br />Information <br />Title <br />Adopt Resolution #19-134 to Hire a Streets Maintenance Worker Backfilling a Vacant Position <br />Purpose/Background: <br />The purpose of this case is to request authorization to hire a full-time Streets Maintenance Worker to fill the current <br />vacancy. <br />As a result of a retirement in the Streets Division, a Streets Maintenance Worker was promoted to a lead position, <br />creating a Streets Maintenance Worker vacancy. Staff conducted a recruitment to fill the position and interviews <br />were held. Staff has selected the top candidate, Mr. Michael Breiter, who subsequently participated in the City's <br />pre -employment testing process. If hired, Mr. Breiter will be subject to a six-month probationary period, the <br />personnel policy and the AFSCME union contact. <br />Notification: <br />The Street Maintenance Worker position is responsible for constructing and maintaining streets, parking lots and <br />related property; performing snow related activities; performing general maintenance activities; performing general <br />labor; performing vehicle and motorized equipment maintenance; performing and assisting with landscape, grounds <br />care, and forestry/naturalist activities; providing assistance with preparation of community events; performing <br />mechanical building maintenance and repair; as well as a wide range of other tasks as required. <br />In addition, the Streets Maintenance Worker is required be a member of the Public Works on -call team and work a <br />rotating on -call schedule 8 weeks per year. This requires employees to be available to respond during evenings, <br />weekends and holidays. <br />Funding Source: <br />The funding required for this position has already been included in the 2019 budget and represents a savings of <br />approximately $7351 over the previously anticipated allocation. <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends adopting the attached resolution. <br />Action: <br />Motion to adopt resolution #19-134 to hire Mr. Michael Breiter as a full-time Public Works Streets Maintenance <br />Worker, effective on or near June 12, 2019, at $22.37 per hour, which is step 1 of the 2019 wage scale. <br />Attachments <br />Resolution 19-134 <br />Job Desc. <br />Form Review <br />
