CITY COUNCIL wORK SESSION Topic Report: NW :Utility ExtenSion Update By: Brian Olson, Assistant Director of Public Works Background: On December 6, 2004, the City Council directed Staff to begin the public participation aspect of the sewer design for the proPertieS north of the existing service area. On February 7, 2005, the City held an informational meeting with those residents that could be impacted by the Potential seWer alignments (attaChed) that would eventually serve those properties that petitioned for the extension of municipal services north of the existing service area. The purpose of that meeting was not to discuss the potential developments (the time to talk about ideVe!6pment related questions is during the public hearings with the comprehensive planning Process as well as the platting procedureS) but rather IF they were approved to determine the best route of the sewer. Attached to this case is a sUmmary of.the cOmments that were received as a result of this meeting. TheSe comments came in-many forms (e-mail, website, and letters) The majority of these concerns were relating to the differences in the City Charter and the City code regarding forced hook-up. There Were also many comments aboUt whether the development should happen or not, 'hOweVer, as mentioned earlier the purpose of the meeting was to get consistent information to those in attendance and talk specifically about the sewer design and potential alignments. Also attached to this topic report is a maP identifying the residents that were notified of the open house as well as those that attended.
