Public Works Superintendent Riemer confirmed that the City does currently have a trailer, but it <br /> is not heated for overnight storage. <br /> Councilmember Heinrich asked for an estimate on the time that would be saved by purchasing a <br /> heated trailer that could store material overnight. <br /> Public Works Superintendent Riemer confirmed that time would be saved by having the ability <br /> to store material overnight. He stated that typically an employee is sent down at 6:00 a.m. to <br /> come back by 9:00 a.m. He estimated that the larger trailer would only need to be refilled every <br /> other day. He noted that having two trailers would allow staff to work on multiple areas at once. <br /> Councilmember Heinrich asked if there is a possibility to rent that type of trailer. <br /> Public Works Superintendent Riemer stated that he is not aware of a rental option. <br /> Mayor LeTourneau asked if the pothole situation is expected to remain constant or improve. <br /> Public Works Superintendent Riemer stated that roads do not get better and confirmed that there <br /> would be a continued need. <br /> Councilmember Kuzma asked if the spray patching rental averages $18,000 per month. He <br /> asked the cost for purchasing the vehicle. <br /> Public Works Superintendent Grant Riemer confirmed that the cost for May and June was about <br /> $36,000. He stated that the truck has a cost of $250,000 to $260,000 without the tanker and <br /> materials. <br /> Councilmember Riley explained that the City budgets $500,000 each year for street maintenance <br /> but is not going to sealcoat this year. He noted that the Public Works Committee directed staff to <br /> investigate options that would utilize the budgeted funds in a smart manner that would have an <br /> impact on improving roads, while the remainder would be saved for projects next year.
