She indicated they wanted to make the <br />stair towers a real identifier, and mike it a nice building even though it is a parking ramp. <br /> <br />Community Development Director Trudgeon noted that Staff has asked that some brick be <br />brought down to the pedestrian level to enhance the look. <br /> <br />Ms. Alsmith showed where Phase 1 would end and Phase 2 started. She noted it was designed so <br />the expansion could be done without having to close the deck. She stated it is intended for <br />shared use with the movie theatre in the evenings. <br /> <br />Commissioner Johnson stated since askyway is not proposed for City Hall they might want to <br />consider a covered walkway or something from the parking ramp to City Hall. <br /> <br />Ms. Alsmith stated they have not provided a heated walkway at this time, but do have a canopied <br />sidewalk. <br /> <br />Commissioner Johnson asked if everything moved according to plan, when they would break <br />ground. <br /> <br />Ms. Alsmith indicated they would break ground next summer, noting the $2.2 million from the <br />Metropolitan Council has to be used by December 2005. <br /> <br />Commissioner Johnson asked what this type of ramp would cost. <br /> <br />Ms. Alsmith stated right not they are at about $8.5 million, however they are proposing to reduce <br />some of the features on the lower portion of Sunwood that will be covered by retail in the future, <br />even though that may take a few years; She indicated they are trying to work on the costs. She <br />explained the stairways, and how they would be lit at night, stating there would be two elevators. <br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Johnson, seconded by Commissioner Watson to recommend to the <br />City Council approval of the preliminary plan for the Ramsey Municipal Parking Facility <br />contingent upon compliance with City Staff Review Letter dated January 28, 2005 and the <br />platting of the Subject Property. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Nixt, Commissioners Watson, Johnson, Shepherd, <br />and Van Scoy.
