Councilmember Pearson introduced the follOwing resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />REsoLUTION #05-02-056 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING May 7,~ 2005 AS "ARBOR DAY" AND THE <br />MONTH OF MAY 2005 AS: "ARBOR MONTH" <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, trees are an increasingly vital resource in Minnesota today, <br />enriching our lives by purifying air, s0il and water, conserving soil and providing local <br />energy, creating jobs through !forest products, serving as beautiful recreational settings, <br />providing habitat for life of all kinds, making our cities more livable and promoting <br />personal health, community health and resilient ecosystem health; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, human activities Such as construction damage, regional and distant <br />source pollution, as well as certain diseases; threaten our trees creating the need for <br />concerted adaptive and collaborative aOtion bY locally planting, nurturing and protecting <br />trees for benefit of citizenry, eConomy and ecology; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of RamseY for the 29th year again sponsors a tree and plant <br />sale by local green businesses for residents; and in partnership with Ramsey Elementary <br />School for a thirteenth year to sponsor an EnWironmental Health and Education Fair; and <br />will be recognized for its sixteenth year; (2004), as a Tree City USA; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Oaks are the most enduring and valued trees in our landscape, we <br />are urged to plant and preserve their legacy for our descendants through stewardship; and <br />to plant disease resistant American Elms to restore their place in our wooded landscape <br />inventory. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br />1 ) That the Ramsey City Council hereby.Proclaims May 7, 2005 as "Arbor Day". <br /> <br />2) <br /> <br />That the Ramsey City Council hereby proclaims the month of May as "Arbor <br />Month". <br /> <br />That the Ramsey City Council ~ges all citizens to plant trees as part of Ramsey's <br />living history, to particiPate in Oak Wilt disease control, programs that will ensure <br />an enduring tree canopy, and collaborate with partners and volunteers to develop <br />and implement policy to plant, nurture, protect, and steward our natural diversity <br />with education for its use and care. <br /> <br />4) <br /> <br />That the Ramsey City Council .urges participation in Ramsey's Tree Sale and <br />Environmental Fair, Recycling Day, and the Pet Vaccination Clinic on Saturday, <br />May 7, 2005. <br /> <br />ResolUtiOn #05-02-056 <br />Page 1 of 2 <br /> <br /> <br />
