Councilmember introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: RESOLUTION #19-208 RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING WOMEN'S SUFFRAGE RATIFICATION CENTENNIAL DAY WHEREAS, on January 10, 1918, a Constitutional Amendment allowing women's suffrage was passed by the United States House; and WHEREAS, on June 4, 1919, the United States Senate passed the Nineteenth Amendment and sent it out to the states for ratification; and WHEREAS, on September 8, 1919, Minnesota ratified the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution, which would grant national suffrage to women; and WHEREAS, Minnesota's ratification, as the 15th State, paved the way for other states to ratify the 19th Amendment; and WHEREAS, September 8, 2019 marks the 100th anniversary of Minnesota's ratification of the 19th Amendment; and WHEREAS, communities across the state are celebrating the 19th Amendment and the date of Minnesota's ratification. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: 1) That the City Council of the City of Ramsey hereby proclaims September 8, 2019 as WOMEN'S SUFFRAGE RATIFICATION CENTENNIAL DAY. 2) That the City Council of the City of Ramsey encourages residents to commemorate September 8, 2019, as the centennial of Minnesota's ratification of the 19th Amendment, and engage and participate in Suffrage Centennial programs and activities in honor of the largest single day expansion of voting rights in our Nation. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember , and upon voted being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: and the following voted against the same: and the following abstained: and the following were absent: Whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted by the Ramsey City Council this the 27th day of August, 2019.
