Next year will bring several changes to our snowplowing operation. We hope to have the
remodeling of our north building completed. This will include the construction of our
salt storage area. With salt storage on site, we will be able to shorten our response time
to changing road conditions. Our newest plow truck will be equipped with several
features that allow the driver to focus their attention on the road and less on truck's
plow/sander controls. With the addition of several new roads and cul-de-sacs, the plow
routes may need to be redesigned, so we can stay within our 8-hour time frame. Other
changes will come in the area of trail and sidewalk snow removal. With the school
district's policy change regarding busing, students within a two mile radius of Ramsey
Elementary School will be forced to find an alternate means of transportation to get to
school. One option will be to walk. The Public Works Department will be impacted
significantly, as we will be called upon to clear our trails in the affected area before the
beginning of the school day. The Public Works Department will continue to discuss
options throughout the summer to find a solution to this uncertainty.

Committee Action:

No Action Necessary

Reviewed by:

Director of Public Works
Parks/Utilities Supervisor

PW: 04/16/02
