The property owner inquired what the City could do to help prevent
stormwater runoff from ponding in their back yard.
City Staff collected topographic survey data in late 2018 and early 2019, and prepared plans, specifications and cost
estimates for a drainage improvement project that includes re -grading the existing drainage swale along the south
property line of 15639 Hedgehog Street, directly across from 15(th Lane NW. The ditch and proposed grading
improvements are located within an existing drainage easement that front several properties in the area. The City
will not need to acquire easements to complete this work. A copy of the plans are attached to this case for reference.
Notification:
Following Council approval, bids will be advertised in the Anoka Union Herald on September 27, 2019.
Observations/Alternatives:
Observations: Staff anticipates receiving good bids due to bidding the project this fall/winter, and due to bidding
more than one drainage improvement project at the same time. Construction is proposed to be substantially
complete this fall or winter, with completion occurring by June 30, 2020. Alternatives: Alternative #1: Motion to
adopt Resolution #19-234 approving plans and specifications and authorizing advertisements for bids for
Improvement Project #19-10, Hedgehog Street Drainage Improvements.
Alternative #2: Motion denying adoption of Resolution # 19-234 at this time.
Funding Source:
The Engineer's estimate of project costs is $22,000. Project costs will be split evenly between the Stormwater
Management and Stormwater Utility Funds.
