2001 275,996 <br />2002 150,000 (budget) <br /> <br />Councilmember Anderson inquired as to what would happen if the City were to use MSA funds <br />to repair an MSA street and then that designation is removed. <br /> <br />City Engineer Jankowski replied that the City would have to refund some of the money to the <br />state for the cost of constructing the street. <br /> <br />Councilmember Anderson requested that staff research the designation of Dysprosium Street as <br />an MSA street. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman stated that he felt that they should be equally spreading the street <br />maintenance costs evenly over the next few years. <br /> <br />Councilmember Kurak inquired if it would even be feasible to complete all the proposed street <br />maintenance projects in 2003. <br /> <br />City Engineer Jankowski replied that it would be difficult. <br /> <br />Councilmember Kurak inquired if it would create a problem changing the maintenance schedule. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen stated that he had thought they had gone through the process a year <br />ago and thought they had developed a process to spread the work out. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman replied that their intention was to spread out the projects so that the <br />City did not incur a large bill at one time, but no action was taken. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen stated that over a six year period staff is indicating that there is 3 <br />million dollars work of maintenance to be done so the cost should be divided to be $500,000 a <br />year. <br /> <br />Principal City Engineer Olson noted that the City could restrict Dysprosium Street and make it <br />narrower and still keep it MSA eligible. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen stated that he had thought they had looked at narrowing Dysprosium <br />Street and construct bump out lanes, but what made it unattractive was that the state would be <br />able to collect some of the funds back. <br /> <br />Principal City Engineer Olson replied that the City was being forced to remove the speed humps <br />along Dysprosium Street or pay the State back for the construction of the street. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated that the Council had directed staff to remove the speed humps and then <br />consider constructing walkways along Dysprosium Street when an overlay is done on the road. <br /> <br />Public Works Committee/February 19, 2002 <br /> Page 3 of 11 <br /> <br /> <br />
