Our Mistioi}: To work together to reipoiibly grew our comma nityr, and to provide quality, cent-oliBcdwe, and efficient government services. <br />CC Regular Session 7. 6. <br />Meeting Date: 12/10/2019 <br />By: Colleen Lasher, Administrative <br />Services <br />Information <br />Title: <br />Adopt Resolution #19-296 to Hire a Patrol Officer <br />Purpose/Background: <br />The purpose of this case is to request the City Council to hire a Patrol Officer. <br />Patrol Officers perform responsible police work involving the protection and safety of the community through <br />prevention and control of crime, maintaining or restoring public order, investigating crime, regulating traffic, <br />enforcing laws, and providing emergency services; as well as other related duties as required. <br />As part of the 2019 budgeting process, funding was included in the budget for a new Patrol Officer. Staff conducted <br />a recruitment and a finalist was selected. The finalist participated in and passed the physical agility testing, two <br />interviews, a report writing exercise, a "shoot/don't shoot video scenario, an extensive background investigation <br />and a psychological assessment. All new Patrol Officers are subject to the Law Enforcement Labor Services union <br />contract, including a 1-year probation period. This position was included in the 2019 budget to begin 10-1-19 but <br />was put on hold until now. <br />Funding Source: <br />The funding required to fill this position has been accounted for in the 2019 budget at $20,658. However, with a <br />later start date the funding requirement will be approximately $1,889. <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends hiring Mr. Derek Anderson as the Police Department's newest Patrol Officer effective on or near <br />December 26, 2019, at step 1 of the 2019 pay scale which is $26.52 per hour. <br />Action: <br />Motion to adopt resolution #19-296, hiring Mr Derek Anderson as the Police Department's newest Patrol Officer <br />effective on or near December 26, 2019 at step 1 of the 2019 pay scale which is $26.52 per hour. <br />Attachments <br />Resolution #19-296 <br />Job Description <br />Form Review <br />
