CC Regular Session
Meeting Date: 04/14/2020
Submitted For: Grant Riemer, Engineering/Public Works
By: Grant Riemer, Engineering/Public Works
5. 6.
Information
Title
Approve Authorization to Replace Sewage Pumps at Lift Station #6
Purpose/Background:
Purpose:
The purpose of this case is to request authorization to replace the sewage pumps, base elbows and force main pipe
located within lift station # 6
Background:
On March 20th the impeller broke on one of the sewage pumps, causing it to malfunction and rendering it
inoperable. Each lift station is equipped with 2 pumps that run alternately. This allows for increased longevity of the
equipment and back up capabilities.
Notification:
NA
Observations/Alternatives:
The malfunctioning pump was replaced with a back-up pump that we keep on hand for emergencies such as this.
The equipment in this lift station was scheduled for replacement in the 2021 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). Due
to the current situation staff recommends that the replacement take place as soon as possible. The new pumps
quoted for replacement include an upgrade to a "chopper" style pump that can better handle all the flushable rags,
that we are now encountering in our system. Though rags were not the cause of the malfunction, we do frequently
have to perform additional maintenance on our lift stations to "derag" pumps. In addition to replacing the pumps the
contractor will replace the base elbows, rail system and force main pipe in the lift station. To replace the base
elbows, portions of the floor in the lift station have to be jack hammered out and the new elbows installed and the
concrete re -poured.
Funding Source:
Utility Fund
Recommendation:
Staff recommends that the city accept WW. Goetsch"s bid of $39,612.00 to replace and install new pumps, base
elbows, rail system and force main pipe at lift station # 6. This price does not include pump rental of $2,843.00
needed for bypass pumping of the lift station as it is being repaired.
Action:
Motion to accept WW. Goetsch"s bid of $39,612.00 to replace and install new pumps, base elbows and force main
pipe at lift station # 6.
FCCI Bid
Attachments
